Deane "Smiley" Taylor died Sunday, July 11, 2021 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. He was born June 4, 1928 to William "Bill" and Leota (Carpenter) Taylor. He was united in marriage to Lois Alexander on October 17, 1953 and they had one daughter, Karen.

Deane was a Jack of all trades. He was an inventor, builder, mechanic and entrepreneur. He ran Taylor's Car Lot in Indianola for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Curtis and sister Lois Jean Harden. Survivors include his wife, Lois; daughter, Karen Waggoner; 7 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Lorna Grow and Shirley Clark.
