Funeral services for David Smith, 65, of Indianola, Iowa, who passed away Friday, December 23, 2022 in Knoxville, will be held 11 a.m., Friday, December 30, 2022 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola.  Visitation will be held prior to services from 10 to 11 a.m., at the funeral home.  Burial will follow services in the Indianola I.O.O.F. Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

David was born on September 16, 1957, in Des Moines, Iowa to Richard and Janice (Easter) Smith.  He grew up in Saylor Township and graduated from Saydel High School in 1975. He was joined in marriage to Janet Leann Christensen on October 1st, 1977, at the Avon Community Church.

David and Janet resided for 45 years in rural Indianola with their beloved pets, where they spent time gardening and watching wildlife in the countryside. David developed a love for the outdoors from a young age through scouting, hunting and camping with his father and family. Throughout his life, he enjoyed woodworking, gunsmithing, shooting sports, a passion for cars and motorcycles, being a computer tech, and being active in the local Izaak Walton League and the Buffalo Ridge Longrifle Buckskinners club.

David was a loving husband, son, brother, uncle and a friend to many. He was always there to offer advice or lend a hand and loved conversation and sharing stories.

Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Janet Smith and dog Beau; his mother, Janice Smith; his sisters, Rhonda (Mark) Dilsaver and Laura (Mark) Roberts; his mother-in-law, Margaret Christensen; brothers-in-law, Rodney (Debbie) Christensen and Dennis Christensen; sisters-in-law, Pam (Steve) Hill and Carla (Roy) Benson; and many nieces and nephews.

David is preceded in death by his father Richard Boyd Smith and his father-in-law Richard Christensen.
