David Charles Miller, 90, of Indianola, Iowa went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, June 7, 2026.  Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 11, 2026 at Grace Church in Indianola from 4:00 - 7:00 pm.  Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, June 12, 2026 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola. Private committal services will be in the Ohio Church Cemetery, Ladora, Iowa.

Dave was born on Christmas Day to Max and Martha (Schwarz) Miller in Chicago, Illinois. He lived in Chicago until he married his wife Patricia (Tanner) Miller and moved to Lake Villa, Illinois to raise their family.  Dave was a brick layer and stone mason by trade and eventually moved to Texas where he finished his career. Upon retirement, Dave and Pat moved to Montezuma, Iowa and eventually to Indianola to be near family.  

As a devout Christian, Dave was active and involved in each church he attended.  Dave was also a member of the Lyons Club, Masonic Lodge and Shriners. 

Dave was a man of numerous talents.  He coached baseball and football.  Dave also was a leader in the AWANA program and various Bible studies. Dave enjoyed fishing, and watching sports, especially the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears.  Dave and Pat traveled the world throughout their 67 years of marriage.  Together they visited Germany, Alaska, Hawaii, Mexico with his all-time favorite being Israel.

Dave's ultimate passion was playing his trumpet.  As a toddler, he found a trumpet in a drawer and started playing "Onward Christian Solider".  Dave played for approximately 85 years with his last time playing Taps on Memorial Day of 2026.  Venues Dave would play at included schools, churches, nursing homes, dance halls and throughout each community he lived in.  He was an extremely talented musician.

 David is survived by his wife Patricia Miller; children, Daniel (Martha) Miller, Julie (Steve Smith) Miller, Mark (Trish) Miller and Heidi (Ben) Tune; grandchildren, Dana (Michael) Garland, John (Shiann) Adair, Zach (Natalie) Miller, Kathryn Tune, Jonah (Jacqueline) Miller, Thomas (Ashlyn) Tune and Claire Miller (Dylan); great grandchildren, Samuel (Millie) Garland, Kayla (Casey) Bandy, Hadley Guill, Sophie Miller, Mayla Tune, Stetson Adair and Clara Miller; two great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Max and Martha Miller; grandchildren, Samuel Miller and David Kurth; siblings Lorraine Miller and Donald Miller.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or the Shriners Children’s Hospital in Dave's name.
