David Max Hunter, 75, of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, July 26, 2023 at home in Des Moines. Inurnment will be held at a later date in the Belmont Cemetery, Milo.

David was a proud Marine and Vietnam Veteran. He and Ruth met at ages 6 and 8, dated through high school, and got married when David returned from Viet Nam, celebrating 55 amazing married years together. They built a life based on love, support, and family comes first. David was an incredible Dad and an even better Papa, if that were possible. David was a great role model, hard worker and great provider for his family; instilling that same strong work ethic into his family.  Although a quiet and intimidating man to some, those who knew him knew no one with a bigger, gentler heart and wonderful sense of humor.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth; children, Karen (Jeff) Schrader, Rebecca Hunter, Nicole Hunter, Alisha (Evern) Hunter; grandchildren, Shiloh Hunter, Tarah Hunter, Gwen Hunter, Kaden Hunter, Mitchell Arellano, Madelaine Arellano, Max Hunter; great-grandson, Austin Nelson; sisters, Donna Greer, Linda Rodish; and many other nieces, nephews and other family. He is preceded in death by his son, Damon Hunter; parents, Kelsie and Edra Kinder; siblings, James Hunter, Clarence (Pat) Hunter, Mona Van Dorn, Jerry Hunter, Donald Hunter, Joyce Hunter.
