Darrel was born in Adrian, Missouri and graduated from Spring Hill High School. Darrell was united in marriage to Barbara Bishop on July 8, 1945. He worked at the Amunition Plant in Des Moines during WW II and then worked for 37 years retiring from Firestone Tire and Rubber in Des Moines. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, their cabin on Stoney Lake near Hackensack, MN, and the Yankees. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Hy-Vee Coffee Club.

He is survived by his wife Barbara; sons, Gordon (Barbara) Allen of Johnston and Bob (Deb) Allen of Urbandale; sister Maxine Morgan of North Kansas City, Mo.; 4 gradchildren, 3 great-grandchildren.

Visitation with family present will be held 6:00-7:30 p.m. Monday, June 27, at Overton Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to the Indianola Senior Citizens Center.
