Funeral services for Daniel Nichols, 40, who died Monday, December 26, 2005 of injuries sustained in a automobile accident, will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 29, at the First Assembly of God Church, 1700 Hwy 92 West in Indianola. Burial with Military and Full Fire Department Honors will follow services in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Marshalltown, Iowa.

Born in Marshalltown, Dan graduated from Marshalltown High School and received his B.A. Degree from the University of Northern Iowa. He was a Fire Medic with Station No. 3 in Des Moines working for the Des Moines Fire Department since September of 2004. He was also a member of the Indianola Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department since February of 1999. Dan was a First Aide CPR Instructor teaching a variety of people from students, Boy Scouts to adults. He enjoyed camping and vacations with his family. He ran for fun and conditioning and easily motivated others. An avid Pittsburgh Steelers' fan, he watched every game and could be counted on to make victory calls to family and friends whenever the Steelers were winning. He was also a big Hawkeye Fan. Dan especially enjoyed playing with children as he was playful and mischievous himself. He was a spirited individual who spoke up for his beliefs and made a friend wherever he went.

Surviving are his wife, Jana Nichols; children, Marya, Danielle, Katie, Jennifer and Jared Nichols all of Indianola; parents, Larry and Diana Nichols of Marshalltown; sister, Teri Mayer of Grimes; brothers, Pat Nichols of West Des Moines, and Jack Nichols, Marshalltown. His cousin John Beaty of Marshalltown was also raised within the family and is considered a brother. He was preceded in death by an infant brother, Larry Joe Nichols.

Visitation will be held 3 – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 28 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola where family will be present to greet friends from 5:30 – 8:00 p.m. Memorials may be designated to the Dan Nichols Memorial Fund 900 Mulberry Street, Des Moines, IA 50309 or the Nichols Family Trust C/O Bank of the West, 211 East Boston Ave. Indianola, IA 50125.
