DANIEL JOSEPH NASH

Services for Daniel Joseph Nash, 63, of Milo, will be held 10 a.m., Monday, June 11 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola with burial following in the Motor Friends Church Cemetery, rural Milo.

Daniel Joseph Nash was born to Doyle and (Arlys) Jean Nash on
October 11, 1954, followed by two close sisters. After graduating from Southeast Warren High School, Dan proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from September 21, 1973 to September 20, 1975. Dan returned to Milo, Iowa, to marry Carol Tipton on May 29, 1976. They raised 3 daughters and 1 son, and Dan joined his parents as a life-long partner of Nash Well Company. Dan also enjoyed raising cattle on their small farm.

Dan is remembered as fun, adventurous, hard-working, kind, compassionate, loving, and loyal. Strong in body but soft in heart, all of Dan's sons-in-law have memories of being bested by his strength (especially to his daughters). Albeit not always quickly, let alone on-time, Dan was always thinking, always moving, always doing, always working (and scarcely billing). Dan received much joy in helping or fixing any problems or issues of friends, clients and his family, preferring not to see his efforts as work. Dan was also a long-time member of the Milo Lions Club, volunteering many hours of community service to the town of Milo.

Dan loved and experienced life deeply. He enjoyed all kinds of music, and occasionally sang bass at community events with his friends. Dan also loved people, especially kids, and knew no strangers. Always interested in everything, Dan loved learning, living, talking, laughing, loving, and although hard of hearing, he loved listening. His pride and his joy were his family, and "adventurous" family vacations are remembered when his children were younger. He would call and listen to, give frequent weather reports, or visit and support his family often, especially on days of bookwork. He played many pranks and gave "special" gifts with a humor all his own to nephews and nieces; chored with grandkids and nieces, tickled and picked on and wrestled with them; and bought a ranger and BRAND NEW quad-cab pickup so he could have room to haul all of his family, especially the grandkids. A niece shared: "everyone needs an Uncle Dan in their lives."

Dan lived 63 years, fighting cancer for over 2 years with the support, love and faith of his wife, Carol, along with sister, Deb, and his kids, grandkids, and many good friends and other family. Never giving up hope, always living and loving every day of his life right until the very end, Dan's body finally succumbed to cancer and found peace on June 5, 2018. But let it be remembered: Dan's spirit won.

Dan is preceded in death by his parents, Doyle and Jean Nash; sister, Denise Bougher; father-in-law, Howard Tipton; brothers-in-law, Kenneth Tipton, Jay Renger, and Jim Konrad; and granddaughter, Carly Rose Shelton. He is survived by wife, Carol (Tipton) Nash; sister, Deb (Dan) Comegys; brother-in-law, Mike Bougher; mother-in-law, Sue Tipton; Godparents, Bob and Bev Schader; 4 children, Tami (Brian) Fairbanks; Kristina (Cory) Oltrogge; Laura (Andrew) Shelton; Phil (Kellie) Nash; grandchildren, Jaden, Jillian, and Taylor Fairbanks, Kalyn and Myelle Oltrogge,  Caleb and Cooper Shelton, and Lachlan and Ryker Nash; as well as many loved nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles, and close friends.

The family is especially grateful to close friend, Chuck Rath, as well as many other family members and friends who fought cancer with us in many ways.

Visitation will be held 1 to 4 p.m., Sunday, June 10 at Overton Funeral Home where family will be present to greet friends.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to:  Milo Lions pediatric illness fund, "Tori's Angels"; "American Cancer Society-Warren County Relay For Life" Nash family team 'Fight Like a Family'; or Milo United Methodist Church elevator fund.
