A Mass of Christian Burial for Daniel R. Dowson, 50, who died Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at the Bright Kavanagh House in Des Moines, will be held 10 a.m. Friday, October 30, at the St. Thomas Aquinas Church Pastoral Center on Hwy 92 West in Indianola. Burial will follow in the Indianola I.O.O.F. Cemetery.

Dan graduated from Dowling High School in Des Moines and was recently inducted into the Dowling Catholic High School Athletic Hall of Fame. He received an Associate Arts degree from Southwestern Community College, where he was a member of the baseball team. He also attended the University of Iowa. He was an avid sports fan, enjoying watching Hawkeye and Cubs games and coaching many youth sports. He also enjoyed golfing, fishing, spending time with his family, and attending his children's activities.

Surviving are his wife, Lisa Dowson and their children, Brette and Blake Dowson all of Indianola; father, Robert Dowson of Des Moines; sisters, Mary Dowson of Des Moines and Jane Pulford of Cedar Falls; brother, John Dowson of Des Moines; as well as other relatives and many friends.

Visitation will be held 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, October 29 at the St. Thomas Aquinas Church Pastoral Center where family will be present to greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. A Vigil service will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday evening. Memorials may be given to the Dobber's Up Scholarship Fund or the Muscular Dystrophy Association/ALS Division.
