Funeral services for Dan Owen Danes, 54, of Norwalk, IA, who passed away Saturday, June 12, 2021, in Des Moines, will be held 10 a.m., Thursday, June 17, 2021 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola with burial following in the Norwalk Cemetery, Norwalk, IA.

Dan was born in Sherman, TX on February 5, 1967 to Dan C. and Ruth L. (Gideon) Danes.  He eventually ended up in Des Moines, graduating from East High School in 1985.  He attended DMAAC and graduated from Central College.

Following in the footsteps of both his naval father and grandfather, Dan M. Danes, Dan enlisted in the Navy Reserves.  During this time he developed a sense of duty and discipline, which he would carry over into both his personal and professional lives.  Dan spent the majority of his professional career in I.T. at Wells Fargo, Principal Financial Group and Meredith Corporation.

Dan's favorite job was being a family man.  He was always on the go, whether shuttling his daughters around or spending countless seasons coaching their soccer teams.  Most Sundays, Dan and Heather could be found eating at a local Mexican restaurant.

As a consummate people person, Dan made friends wherever he went.   His welcoming smile and twinkling eyes drew people in.  He had a way of putting everyone at ease.

Dan's interests included sports, live music and professional development.  In addition, he enjoyed road tripping, dancing, and cooking.  He frequently could be found raising his glass in a toast with his friends.

Dan was a great man and will be sorely missed.

Dan is survived by his wife, Heather; daughters, Emma Lowe Danes, Elizabeth Lowe Danes; mother, Ruth Gideon; sister, Candi (Kevin) Peterson; many nieces and nephews including: Isaiah (Jill) Lackland, Ivory Eggert, Echo Eggert, Amber (Geoff) Clevenger, Sarah Mahan, Orion Peterson, Autumn Peterson; great niece and great nephews; many aunts and one uncles; father and mother-in-law, Marty and Jane Harswick. He is preceded in death by his father, Dan C. Danes; sister, Denise Mahan; and grandparents.

Visitation will be held 3 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, June 16, 2021 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola where family will be present to greet friends. Memorials may be given in Dan's name to the family for a contribution to be determined at a later date.
