Obituary

Dale "Chappy" Chaplin, 59, of Indianola, died Tuesday, December 7, 2004 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, December 10, at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola with burial at Liberty Center Cemetery, Liberty Center, Iowa.

Dale was born April 2, 1945 to Kenneth W. and Wilma L. (Hervey) Chaplin in Indianola and had lived in Warren County all his life. He served in the United States Army during Vietnam, stationed in Texas. He retired from John Deere Des Moines Works and enjoyed gardening, taking care of the yard, playing pitch and his grandchildren.

He is survived by his former wife, Helen Chaplin of Indianola; two daughters, Christina Chaplin of Des Moines and Melisa (James) Leverich of Medora; three sisters, Louise Kirkpatrick of Des Moines, Lois Bennett of Monroe and Janice Benge of Russell; six brothers, Wendell and David Chaplin of Indianola, Dean Chaplin of Canesville, MO, John and Gary Chaplin of Des Moines and James Chaplin of Milo; six grandchildren, Jessica, Natasha and Shyanna Chaplin of Indianola, Damon Sharp, and Zachary and Destiny Leverich of Medora; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Wilma Chaplin and three brothers, Floyd, Dwaine and Carl Chaplin.

Visitation will be held 2:00 – 8:00 p.m., Thursday, December 9, at Overton Funeral Home where family will be present to greet friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
