Constance "Connie" Ruth Rauenhorst was born on a farm in Chester, South Dakota, on January 6, 1939 to Arthur and Berna Malthesen. She had two older brothers Rolland and Robert and was later joined by her baby sister Cheryl. She enjoyed growing up on a farm and had a beloved Shetland pony that she rode bareback all over the countryside. She was a tomboy who enjoyed roughhousing with her brothers. In High School, Connie was a part of a coronet trio that performed all around the area. She graduated from Chester High school in 1957. She successfully attended Nettleton College and worked at Sioux Valley Hospital as a bookkeeper and a switchboard operator. Connie was united in marriage on February 15, 1958, to Robert Rauenhorst. Together, they welcomed four children. Connie owned and operated a full-time Day Care for many years, and she was adored by her kiddos. She was known as the best bread baker and loved making everyone's favorites.
Those grateful for sharing her life and love are Robert Jr. Rauenhorst, William (Renae) Rauenhorst, Mashelle Paul, Shari (Rob) Fiori; 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandson; sister, Cheri (David) Tomscha; and many nieces, nephews and other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; parents, Arthur and Berna Malthesen; brothers, Robert and Roland Malthesen; and grandson, Mikey Fiori.
Services for Connie Rauenhorst, 85, who passed away Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at EveryStep Kavanagh House in Des Moines, will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, November 2, 2024, at the First United Methodist Church in Indianola. Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m., prior to service at the church. Graveside services will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday, November 6 in the Iowa Veterans Cemetery, Adel, IA. Memorials can be made in Connie's name to EveryStep Kavanagh House.
