IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Connie Rae
Cox
October 31, 1950 – February 28, 2024
It is with great sadness that the family of Connie Rae Cox announces her unexpected passing on Wednesday, February 28th, 2024 at the age of 73.
Connie was the second of four children, born to Dale and Doris Lash on October 31st, 1950 in Des Moines, Iowa, spending her early childhood years in Indianola. Connie had a passion for riding horses. She enjoyed showing horses and especially loved pole bending with her horse, Ginger. At the age of 12, the family moved to the St. Mary's community, where Connie excelled in basketball and was remembered for her rebounding skills. She was even offered a scholarship to play at Nebraska.
While in high school, Connie met Michael Cox, whom she married June 8th, 1968. Following the wedding, Connie moved to Germany to be with Mike, while he served time in the Army. Connie and Mike settled in Indianola, where they raised their sons Chauncey and Jay. Connie was such a proud mother and enjoyed spending her time at the motocross track watching the boys race dirt bikes, in the gym watching wrestling, or alongside the football field.
She was the friendly welcoming face at two local dentist offices for her working years. Connie and Mike always had an open door policy, where they enjoyed spending time with friends and family. Connie spent 49 years with Mike before his passing in 2018.
Connie's highlights of her life were her boys. She had 5 grandsons, Carter, Grady, Eli, Kieran and Hudson, whom she also loved supporting in any activity they were involved in, along with being Grandma Connie to many of the boys' friends and families. Sporting events kept her busy year round, from Indianola to Van Meter. When you couldn't find Connie physically at a game or meet, she was still at home following along in any way she could.
Although Connie's end of life was unexpected, it was very evident that she was full of love and handled all of life's challenges with dignity and grace. She will be incredibly missed by all of her friends and family.
Connie is survived by her sons, Chauncey (Kelly) and Jay; grandsons, Carter, Grady, Eli, Kieran and Hudson; sisters, Sheila (Greg) Hraha and Tish (Tom) O'Mara; brother-in-law, Denny Cox; sisters-in-law, Sherry (Gene) Enke and Deb Lash; nephews, Rob, Sean, Cory, and Kyle; and niece, Kelsey. She is preceded in death by her husband Mike, parents Dale and Doris Lash, brother Regi Lash and nephews Darin and Ryan Hraha.
A Celebration of Life Gathering for Connie will be held 1 to 4 p.m., Saturday, March 16th, at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be given to the Indianola Mat Tribe, a 501(c)(3) charity, for the Mike and Connie Cox Wrestling Scholarship Fund.
