Obituary

Clark Howard Raney, 77, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2025, in his new home in Castle Rock, Colorado, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on October 10, 1947, in Cherokee, Iowa, Clark was the son of Warren and Esther Wibholm Raney. He spent his formative years in Iowa, graduating from Jefferson High School. After transferring from Iowa State University, he earned his degree in finance from the University of Northern Colorado. During his time at UNC, he was a proud member of the Sigma Chi fraternity and met Betsy, the love of his life and wife of 55 years.

Clark built a distinguished career in banking, starting in Denver before spending much of his professional life with the Brenton Bank system in Emmetsburg and Indianola, Iowa. He concluded his career at City State Bank, a community institution he helped establish. Later, he brought his dedication and humor to his role at Betsy's company, Dandrik Designs, where he was proudly named "Employee of the Month" 36 times.

Deeply committed to his community, Clark served as a board member for many organizations in Indianola including service on the Indianola School Board, Indianola Municipal Utilities Board, Library Board, Parks and Recreation, and numerous other local organizations. His selflessness and dedication left a lasting impact on the community he loved.

Clark's life was enriched by his hobbies and passions. He was a serial remodeler, a devoted Green Bay Packers fan, and a talented guitarist. One of his greatest joys was coaching and mentoring his three sons in their various sports and activities. Whether on the field, court, or sideline, Clark emphasized character over wins and losses, instilling values that extended far beyond the games. Above all, he treasured time spent with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Warren and Esther Raney, and his brother, David Warren Raney.

Clark is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Elizabeth (Betsy) Jackson Raney; his children, Andrew (DJ) Raney, Daniel (Sarra) Raney, and Erik (Christina) Raney; and his grandchildren, Jackson Raney, King Raney, and Warren Raney. He also leaves behind his siblings, Bill (Peg) Raney and Ron (Sandy) Raney, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will miss him dearly.

Plans for a funeral or memorial service are still being determined. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations, in Clark's memory, to ZERO Prostate Cancer.

Clark's warmth, humor, and generosity touched all who knew him. His legacy of love and service will be remembered by his family, friends, and community for generations to come.
