Cheryl Louise Kuney passed away on April 11, 2020 in Delano, California.
Cheryl was born in Leon, Iowa to Robert Lyman and Marian (Coon) Lyman. She earned her bachelor's degree in education from the University of Northern Iowa. Upon graduation she accepted a teaching position with Delano High School, Delano, California, starting the fall of 1968. Cheryl earned her master's degree from Bakersfield College then became a counselor for Delano High School and worked her way up to head counselor. When Cesar Chavez High School opened, she transferred there as their head counselor where she remained until she retired. Cheryl preferred working with teenagers because she loved how much spirit and boldness they had. She said it was the secret to keeping her feeling young.
Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents, brother Robert Michael Lyman, and spouse Edward Snyder. She is survived by her daughter Kimberly Kuney Valladares, son-in-law Juan Valladares, grandchildren Anissa Valladares, Jordan Valladares, and Aiden Valladares of Iowa, sister-in-law Patricia Lyman, nephew Nicholas Lyman, niece Sarah (Matt) Wright of Tennessee, brother-in-law Ken (Sharon) Snyder, niece Jenny (Ken) Griest of Colorado, and nephew Chris (Katie) Snyder of New York.
A Graveside memorial service will be held 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 12 at Belmont Cemetery in Milo, Iowa, where her ashes will then be interred. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation, in Cheryl's name, to a charity that has special meaning to you.
