Memorial services for Charlotte Orma Johnston, 96, who passed away Saturday, March 3, 2018, will be held 7 p.m. Thursday, March 8 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola.  The visitation will be held 4 to 7 p.m. with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral  home.

Charlotte was born January 23, 1922 in Rural Warren County near Milo, Iowa the daughter of Dale and Marjorie (Metcalf) Young.  She graduated from Milo High School in 1939 and was united in marriage on January 14, 1945 to Cleo Vernon Johnston.

She lived in Des Moines and also worked for the Ordinance Plant making bullets.  She then moved to Indianola in 1949 and worked for Des Moines Stamp Manufacturing for 22 years retiring in 1981.  She then took care of her two grandchildren until the mid 1990's.  She enjoyed her grand-dogs, family, baseball, football and basketball.  She also enjoyed traveling to the Pentagon in Washington D.C. to visit her son in 1972 where she met Rear Admiral Shelton.

Charlotte is survived  by her son, Roger (Chris) Johnston; grandchildren Erin (Frank) Straughter and Emily (Jeff) Bates and three great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband Cleo Johnston and a brother, Dean Young.  Memorials may be given to Kiya Koda Humane Society.  Online condolences may be made at www.overtonfunerals.com.
