IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Charles John
Ginter
April 18, 1937 – November 2, 2021
Charles Ginter aged 84, passed away with family by his side on November 2, 2021. A Celebration of Life will be held 6 p.m., Friday, November 12, 2021 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola. Visitation will be held 2 hours prior to service from 4 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
Charles grew up on a small farm in Rhodes, IA with his brother and sister. He graduated from high school in 1955 in Rhodes, later marrying Earlene Johnson in 1960. He worked briefly at Marshalltown Manufacturing Company before joining the United States Airforce. Charles and Earlene lived in Alabama, New Mexico and Marshalltown, IA before moving to Indianola in 1970, where they raised their four children. Charles was the Director of the Indianola Public Library, retiring after 28 years. He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Simpson College, graduating cum laude. Charles touched many lives. Some will remember him as a brother who endlessly played practical jokes making life on the farm an adventure. Others will remember him as an actor in community theatre at the Martha Ellen Tye Playhouse in Marshalltown. Some will remember him from their childhood, listening to him read books during "story time" at the Indianola Public Library with Thumper the puppet and later in his life, others may remember his traveling presentations on dinosaurs. His grandkids will always hold the memories of his storytelling and how fun he made everything. Although this list can go on and on, all undoubtedly, will remember Charles' wonderfully wicked sense of humor, his passion to make others laugh and as an artist who painted for an audience of one, himself. Charles loved his family and he will be greatly missed by all.
Special thanks to family, friends and the caregivers of Home Instead who lovingly cared for Charles during his final days at home.
Charles is survived by his children, LaDonna (Jr. Pritchard) Hutchcroft, Martha (Ryan) Becker, John (Heather Kantor) Ginter, Dan (Chris Hannum) Ginter; grandchildren, Clint Hutchcroft, Luke (Hannah) Hutchcroft, Lane (Shaye Eggleston) Becker, Wyatt and Colton Becker, Rachel (Nicole) Damiano; brother, Larry Ginter; and many beloved nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Earlene; infant daughter; parents, Lawrence and Alice Ginter; sister, Delores Feany; daughter-in-law, Dr. Regina Armstrong Ginter; mother-in-law, Lois Eibs Eggleston; and nephew, Tony Fisher.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Charles and Earlene's name to the Indianola Public Library.
