Obituary

Chuck went to be with his Lord and Savior on December 24, 2023 after a lengthy battle with Atypical Parkinsonism. Services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, January 4, 2024 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola with burial following in the Indianola I.O.O.F. Memorial Gardens Cemetery.  Visitation will be held prior to services from 9 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Chuck went to and graduated from Indianola Community Schools. He graduated in the Class of 1974. After graduation, he went to work at Firestone Tire and Rubber in Des Moines, IA.

In August of 1975 he joined The Indianola Volunteer Fire Department. He was quickly hooked. Working on the fire department and helping people in need was in his blood. On September 1,1978 he married Sally Bouslog. She was a Simpson College student, and Dispatcher for the Indianola Police Department and Fire Department and later the Warren County Sheriff's Office and had been telling him where to go until she passed away November 13, 2020. In 1978 he would also go to Des Moines Area Community College and obtained his Emergency Medical Technician-Ambulance certificate. That was the beginning of numerous Fire and Medical Certificates would earn as a Firefighter/Medic. In December of 1978 he was hired by the 132nd Fighter Wing, Iowa Air National Guard Fire Department as a full-time State of Iowa Airport Firefighter located on the Des Moines International Airport. In 1989-1990 he attended Mercy College of EMS and became a Paramedic through the State of Iowa Board of Health. Later he would become a Paramedic Specialist. In 1993 he was promoted to Assistant Fire Chief of the 132nd. He held every position in both departments to include Fire Chief in their absence. Chuck worked for Indianola Fire Department on his off days from the Airport and was instrumental in hiring Indianola Fire Department's first 6 fulltime Firefighter/Medics.

In 2000 after retiring from the Indianola Fire Department, he began driving school buses. Chuck got bored and in 2003 was hired by Windstar Lines. He enjoyed driving tour buses. He would work at the Airport Fire Department, then on his days off change uniforms and drive Tour Buses and occasionally take vacation to drive. August 18, 2011, he retired from the Airport Fire Department, which came with an F-16 ride. He also became a member of the 9-G club that day. Chuck was the 1st and only Civilian employee awarded the opportunity to ever ride in an F-16, in fact, the Wing Commander had to get permission from the Pentagon. Chuck figured his bus driving days were over because they planned to move to the Table Rock Lake / Branson, MO area. But Windstar allowed him to stay on the roster. He traveled from boarder to border, coast to coast and Canada and was able to see many things and places.

His favorite trips were with Simpson College Baseball to spring training in Arizona or Florida, and Evans Middle School from Ottumwa. He would take them to Washington DC, Florida, and Great Western Expedition / Yellowstone on a camping trip every year once he started driving a bus. He would drive the bus until his health would fail in 2019.

Chuck was a member and Trustee of the First Christian Church of Kimberling City, MO and he loved to play Bass Guitar on the church Worship Team.
