Services for Catherine I. Babcock, 74, who died Thursday, January 26, 2012 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, will be held 10:30 a.m., Monday, January 30, at the First United Methodist Church in Indianola. Cremation will follow services with interment of cremains at a later date in the Iowa Veterans Cemetery, Van Meter. Catherine I. Babcock, the daughter of George William and Mary Juanita (Haxton) Nelson, was born September 9, 1937 in Stratford, Iowa. She graduated from Dayton High School and also from Nursing training at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines. On September 14, 1958 she was united in marriage to Richard Wayne Babcock and to this union three sons were born, Dennis, Rick and Tim. Catherine worked at Blank Children's Hospital at Iowa Methodist in Des Moines, Godwin Brothers Nursing Home, Westview Care Center and Medical Arts, (Dr. Flory) all in Indianola. Catherine passed away Thursday, January 26, 2012 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, IA at the age of 74 years, 4 months and 17 days. Survivors include her husband, Dick; sons, Dennis (Jill) Babcock, Rick (April) Babcock and Tim (Colleen) Babcock; grandchildren, Travis (Randi) Hopkins, Stephanie, Nick, Ryan and Brady Babcock; three great-grandchildren, Brandon, Michael and Dakota Hopkins; and her brother, Larry (Doris) Nelson. Visitation will be held 1 to 4 p.m., Sunday, January 29 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola where family will be present to greet friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Memorials may be given to the John Stoddard Cancer Center in Des Moines.
