Services for Carol L. Spurlock, 69, formerly of Indianola, who passed away November 26, 2013, will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at Overton Funeral Home, Indianola, Iowa. Burial will follow in the Indianola I.O.O.F. Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Carol was born in Danville, IL on December 19, 1943, to Roscoe and Grace Pollitt. In 1950, her family moved to Altoona, IA and later moved to Slater, IA where Carol graduated from North Polk High School. Carol worked twenty-five years for the Iowa State Department of Education and that is where she met her husband, Paul. They were married June 6, 1975 and sharedmany interests, especially sports andtraveling together throughout Europe. They were both very active in Kiwanis International. Following their retirement to N. Ft. Myers, FL in 1987, Carol and Paul were highly involved with The Boston Red Sox Spring Training Usher Crew. She had many friends at Lake Fairways and especially enjoyed her golfing friends. Carol was a member of TheUnited Methodist Church and lived her faith in service to others; caring for Paul through his illness until his death on January 8, 2006. She loved Paul's children as her own, and also her nephews and nieces. Carol leaves to cherish her memory: two sisters, Peggy (George) Murrow and Doris Brown; five step-children, Jim (Gayla) Spurlock, Paula Singleton, Peggy Spurlock, Andreas (Suzanne) Spurlock, and Steven (Desiree) Spurlock; eight step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; many beloved nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces; two sisters-in-law and fourbrothers-in-law. Preceding Carol in death was her husband of thirty years, Paul, her parents, and a nephew. Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 4, at Overton Funeral Home, Indianola. The family suggests contributions to The American Cancer Society or to a Hospice of your choice.
