Services for Carol Kenney, 87, of Des Moines formerly of Indianola, who passed away Thursday, October 17, 2024, will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, October 25, 2024, at the First United Methodist Church in Indianola, with burial following in the IOOF Cemetery, Indianola.
Carol grew up on a farm in Corydon. After high school she moved to Des Moines and attended AIB. Not long after moving to Des Moines she met her future husband and married December 27, 1958. Louis and Carol moved to Indianola where they raised 3 children, Michele, Leslie and Celia. She loved her community and the people in it.
One of her greatest loves was ironing. She would iron for people out of her home while she was home with her children. She continued doing that up until 2021. She sold Tupperware for a while and was everyone's favorite Avon lady.
When the kids grew older, she went to work at the Warren County Brenton Bank as the drive thru teller where she loved working with the customers. She went on to work for the P.E.O. Executive Office in Des Moines for many years. When she retired, she got involved in helping her church. She was in the choir and was the funeral luncheon coordinator for many years. She was involved in several organizations. P.E.O. Chapter JV, BPW, helping with the balloons working in the gift shop.
Carol is survived by her children, Michele Romeo, Leslie (Ellen) Kenney, Celia (Kevin) Hockaday; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; siblings, Florence Darrah, David (Shirley) Bott, Mark (Joyce) Bott; sister-in-law, Linnae (Marvin) Coker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis; parents.
Visitation with family present will be held 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, October 24 at Overton Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church, or to the family for a donation to PEO.
