Carol M. Birch, of St. Marys, ended her journey on earth peacefully and was received by her Lord and Savior on April 27, 2011. Carol was born in Orange, MA on July 11, 1943 to Arthur and Beatrice (Woods) English (Bresnahan). She graduated from Ralph C. Mahar Regional High School, Orange in 1961. Carol retired from the Sears Company, West Des Moines. She loved her family and her favorite pastime was spending time and activities with them, especially her many grandchildren. She was the center of her family and will be remembered by them always. She was an avid reader and also enjoyed watching movies from her large DVD collection, as well as collecting scented candles. Carol was predeceased by her mother and father. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Gerald Birch, St. Marys; daughters, Janaan Reeves, Des Moines and Tracy (Donald) Wheeler, Cedar Rapids; son, Eric (Angie) Birch, Kansas City, MO; grandchildren, Austin and Gage Reeves, Josh, Amanda, Kasey and Jordan Wheeler, and Zachary, Collin and Macy Birch; sister, Patricia (Douglas) McIntosh, Orange, MA; brother, Peter English, Northboro, MA; and nieces, Nicole Lyman and Erin Soucie. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m., Saturday, April 30 at the Immaculate Conception Church, St. Marys with burial in the Iowa Veterans' Cemetery, Van Meter, IA. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m., Friday, April 29 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola where family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Mercy Hospital Hospice Services of Des Moines.
