Born in Des Moines, IA, Carl had lived in Summerset most of his life. He worked for the Printer Inc. as a bindery foreman before retiring in October of 2003. Carl had also owned Sudsuckers Sports Bar in South Des Moines.

Carl is survived by his sons, Carl, Gary and Jeff; daughters, Carla, Dena, Nicole, Charli and Evelyn; 22 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brother, Bill and sisters, Barb and Nancy.

Visitation will be held 2 – 7:00 p.m., Sunday, December 18 at Overton Funeral Home where family will be present to greet friends from 4 – 7:00 p.m. Memorials may be given to the Carl M. Van Pelt Family.
