IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Carl B.
Reno
November 26, 1941 – April 12, 2025
Services for Carl B. Reno, 83, of Indianola, who passed away Saturday, April 12, 2025 at home, will be held 1:30 p.m., Thursday, April 17 at the Indianola Community Church in Indianola with burial following in the IOOF Cemetery, Indianola.
Carl was born on November 26, 1941, in Ottumwa, Iowa, the eldest child of Doris Fern (McSparen) Cline and Oren Cline, adopted by John Reno in 1959. A lifelong member of the Christian Church, Carl lived a life grounded in faith, family, and service.
He had a passion for high school athletics-both coaching and watching-and was a devoted fan (and alumni) of Iowa State University athletics and the Chicago Cubs, celebrating their 2016 World Series Championship with joy. He loved playing golf daily when possible and enjoyed participating in all forms of card playing. In his younger years, he took great pride in training his dogs for quail hunting.
Carl cherished watching his six grandchildren compete in sports and celebrate milestones, including their graduations from high school and college. After a fulfilling 30-year career in education as a teacher, coach, and administrator, he retired, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and leadership. He loved it so much he continued to do interim work as a superintendent well after his retirement. Among his fondest memories were the state tournament appearances by the teams he coached. Carl and Kay wintered in Yuma, Arizona with family and friends for 27 years.
Carl is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Linda Kay; three daughters: Carla Kay Ogden, Lisa Gay Hunter (Mark), and Donna Rae Merideth (Jeff); and seven grandchildren: Tanner Kay Lange (Joel), Tori Jo Ogden, Colbi Kay Glover (Kellen), Coltyn Jane Harry (Josh), Drew Michael Merideth (Kassidy), Ryan Jeffrey Merideth (Hannah), and the late Marissa Renae Merideth. He also leaves behind nine great-grandchildren whom he adored: Brecken, Brantley, Carson, Callie, Kohen, Karver, Gerard, Evelynn, and Magdalene. In addition, Carl is survived by three siblings-Arlen, Karen, and John-a sister-in-law, Karen, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by many loved ones.
Visitation will be held 4 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, April 16 at Overton Funeral Home where family will be present to greet friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Carl's memory for a Scholarship fund to be created for the Southeast Warren Community School's. The family will contribute to meet a $10,000 goal.
