IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Carl Brenner
Fox Jr
January 18, 1942 – February 6, 2024
Visitation for Carl B. Fox Jr., 82, of Indianola, who passed away Tuesday, February 6, 2024 will be held 5 to 8 p.m., Sunday, February 11 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola where family will be present to greet friends. Inurnment with military honors will take place at a later date in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr.
Carl B. Fox, jr. was born in Xienia, Ohio in 1942 to Carl and Betty Jayne Fox. They moved to Alaska for his dad's work but subsequently came back to Ohio where he lived until his high school graduation. He was the oldest of three siblings, which included brother Dale and his sister Susan.
Carl enlisted into the Navy and traveled the world on the U.S.S. Blue, from Australia to the Philippines. He was on active duty from 1960-1962 and in the reserves until 1964 when he was honorably discharged.
He then lived in California until around 1967 when he traveled to Iowa for work. He met his future wife, Janet Mae Wells, at the Val Air Ballroom. They went to go see the movie "In Cold Blood" on their first date; they married in 1968 and remained married until death, 56 years later.
In 1972 Carl and Janet moved with their daughter Carla into a country farm, outside of Indianola, Iowa. Within a few years their next child, Robert, came along.
In the late 1970s, Carl created and began his own lawn care company, and named it Custom Lawn Care. It was a family business, mostly ran by Carl and Janet. He was very proud of it and only stopped mowing lawns towards the very end of his life when he no longer physically could.
Carl and Janet moved into an apartment at the Vintage Hills memory center in August of 2023, after Janet had battled Alzheimer's. This was after Carl spent years devoting himself to taking care of Janet on the farm they built together and he no longer had the ability to care for her on his own.
A few months after moving into his new home Carl's health rapidly declined. He was tough and fought hard, but in the end, it was too much even for the strongest man to handle and he passed away close to midnight on Monday, February 5th.
Carl is survived by his wife, Janet; children, Carla Quick, Robert (Vesselina) Fox; grandchildren, Joseph (Jamie) Quick, Caden Quick, Alexander Fox, Sydney Fox; great-grandchildren, Naomi Jane Quick; sister, Susan Seeley, Lancaster, OH. He is preceded in death by his parents, Carl Sr. and Jayne Fox; brother, Dale Fox.
