Obituary

Carl G. Carlsen, 89, passed away at Indianola Good Samaritan Center on March 22, 2008. Memorial graveside services for the remains will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, March 27 at the chapel in Clinton Lawn Cemetery with Clinton United Methodist Church, Pastor Dennis Glew officiating. Memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels of Clinton.

Carl was born in Clinton, Iowa on September 15, 1918 to Donie and Carl Carlsen. He married Leone Bell on February 26, 1938 and they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary this past month. He was employed at DuPont for 33 years. Carl was a Cubs and Hawkeye fan, enjoyed all sports, and was a member of the Fulton Country Club. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, served under General George Patton in the 3rd Army, and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He was active in the 4th Armored Division Association and was national president of the association from 1996-1997. Carl was instrumental in forming the Mid America Chapter of the 4th Armored Division. He was active in the Gateway Credit Union and held several offices. He was a long time blood donor and donated 19 gallons over several years.

Survivors include his wife, Leone; daughter, Karen Carlsen of Indianola; grandchildren, Tammy Lehman and Scott Maydew; three great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces.
