BRENDA MORGAN
Indianola
Brenda was born in Muscatine, IA, the daughter of George R. and Minnie E. (Gullion) Martin. She spent her growing up years in Altona, IL attending ROVA Jr. High and High School. After moving to Peoria, IL and getting involved in academic endeavors and band, she graduated from Woodruff High School in 1959.
Brenda attended Illinois Wesleyan University (First Nursing Class) and after getting married and having two sons, she graduated in 1966.
After working a few years in Peoria, she decided to pursue a career in Public Health attending University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, NC, which she completed in 1974.
Upon completion of her master's program, she was asked to join the UNC Nursing School faculty. She later went to Duke University as an instructor and student (doctoral studies). After retiring in 2003 from Duke University Hospital, she decided to move to Indianola, IA to be closer to family.
Her interests included quilting, needlework, genealogy, and traveling. She was actively involved in the community serving on several boards and earning her DAR designation.
She is survived by her sons, Daniel (Lynn) Morgan, Norfolk, VA and Robert (Rena) Morgan, Marietta, GA; five grandchildren; brother, James (Joanne) Martin, Springfield MO; and sister, Bonnie (Ron) Palmer, Pleasant Hill, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents, great uncle Drewis and great aunt Mary Kern, and two grandchildren Matthew Robert and Katherine Ward Morgan.
Visitation with family will be held 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, July 21 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola.
Services for Brenda Morgan, 75, who passed away Thursday, July 20, 2017, will be held 10 a.m., Saturday, July 22, at Staves Memorial United Methodist Church, 2747 East Madison Ave., Des Moines, IA 50317.
In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Warren County Historical Society.
