Obituary

Services for Bonnie Mae Stookey (Hargis), 93, of Indianola, Iowa, who passed away October 9, 2022 in Norwalk, will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, October 22, 2022 at the Scotch Ridge United Presbyterian Church, rural Carlisle. Visitation will be held prior to services from 10 to 11 a.m. Burial will follow services at the Elm Grove Cemetery.

Bonnie was born on a farm near Scotch Ridge in Warren County on March 9, 1929. She was the daughter of Carl and Lucille (Schooler) Hargis. She attended Mt. Olive School, East High in Des Moines and Monmouth College in Monmouth, Illinois.

After working a few years in various jobs, she joined National Travelers Life in 1954. She worked 31 years in the Payroll and Accounting departments.

Bonnie was married to Floyd Stookey of Des Moines in 1953. He was deceased in 1988. Preceding Bonnie in death were her parents, husband, brother Dick and an infant sister.

Surviving are two brothers, Howard (Kara) of Arizona and Gary (Anne) of Omaha; many nieces and nephews; best friend, Sharon Browne and her husband Marlin; and many other good friends.

Bonnie was active in her church being an elder, clerk of session and treasurer for many years. She was an avid reader, #1 fan of the Hawkeyes, and had a good sense of humor.

Memorials may be made to Scotch Ridge United Presbyterian Church, where Bonnie had been a baptized member since 1940.
