Obituary

Bonnie Gripp, 92, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of her family. Born in York, Nebraska, on January 31, 1933, Bonnie moved with her family to a farm in Thayer, Iowa, in 1944. From those early days, she carried with her a quiet strength, a love of home, and a deep devotion to the people she cared for.

On December 16, 1950, she married Bob Gripp—the love of her life. They shared 74 beautiful years of marriage filled with laughter, respect, and a bond that never wavered. Their love was the kind that others looked up to, steady and strong, the kind that lasts a lifetime.

Bonnie had a true gift for caring. She ran a home daycare for over 20 years, welcoming children with warmth and patience. She also had a creative side and spent hours enjoying crafts and painting ceramics, finding joy in the little things.

She and Bob enjoyed their retirement years traveling and escaping the Iowa winters to spend time with close friends Harvey and Dorothy Shields in Florence, Arizona. But Bonnie's favorite place was always home—especially when it was filled with family. She loved holidays the most: Christmas, Thanksgiving, family reunions, and summer fish frys. These moments lit her up. For the past 20+ years, Saturday morning coffee with her boys and daughter Kathy was a weekly tradition she never missed and always treasured.

Bonnie showed love in the way she knew best—through food. Her meals were always something special, and she was especially proud of her famous potato salad. She made sure no one ever left her home hungry or unloved.

She was the heart of her family—the one who kept traditions going, who held everyone close, and who made every gathering feel like home. Bonnie's love, her warmth, and her presence will be missed more than words can say—but her spirit will live on in every shared story, every family get-together, and every bite of potato salad made just the way she did.

Bonnie is survived by her loving husband, Bob; children, Dan (Carla) Gripp, Mike (Denise) Gripp, Rick (Ellen) Gripp, Jeff (Becky) Gripp, Kathy Oberender; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and other family and friends. She is preceded in death by parents, Howard and Grace McNaughton; brother and sister-in-law, John and Mamie McNaughton; sister, Violet McNaughton; mother and father-in-law, Merrill and Olive Gripp.
