Bob was born on March 21, 1929 in Liberty Center, Iowa to Tom and Anah Sandy. He graduated from Liberty Center High School. Upon graduation he served his country during the Korean War. Upon return, Bob enrolled at Iowa State University where he obtained a degree in civil engineering. Bob married Gwen Reynolds and into this marriage three children were born. Gwen preceded him in death after 40 years of marriage. In 1996 he was united in marriage to Ruby Thompson.
Bob served Warren County for 60 years. He was appointed Warren County Engineer and later elected to the Warren County Board of Supervisors.
Bob was a civic leader. He served on numerous boards and committees including Indianola Memorial Building Commission, Iowa Association of Counties, National Balloon Classic Board of Directors, Indianola Noon Lions Club, Indianola Little League, Trinity United Presbyterian Church, along with others.
He was known as the"Voice of Warren County." He broadcasted local sporting events for KBAB radio station. He enjoyed his Saturday morning radio program entitled "Coffee with the Coaches."
He is preceded in death by his wife, Gwen, his parents, two sisters, and two brothers.
Survivors include his wife Ruby, his children, Brent of Iowa City, Jill (Warren) Anderson of Norwalk, Jori (Curt) Coghlan of Indianola, DeeAnn Schnack of Chicago, IL, Barb Wambold of Ankeny, and Tom (Kathy) Thompson of Plano, TX and 13 grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity United Presbyterian Church.
