Services for Bob Elgin, 79, who passed away Thursday, March 20, 2008 at Taylor House Hospice, will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday March 22 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola with burial at IOOF Cemetery.  Visitation will be on Friday, March 21 at Overton Funeral Home from 3:00-8:00 p.m. with family to greet friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m.

Bob was the youngest child of Paul and Margaret (Hargis) Elgin.  He was born April 28, 1928 in Maquoketa, Iowa where his father was working on a road construction project.  Soon after his birth the family returned to Warren County.

He attended Spring Hill Consolidated School graduating in the class of 1945.  On May 11, 1951 he married Phyllis Bowlin.  They were married 42 years when she passed away in 1993.

Bob farmed in the Spring Hill and Carlisle areas.  He also bought and sold used farm machinery calling the business Bob Elgin Used Equipment.

Survivors include his daughters and their families – Christine and John Hamilton and Lauren Hamilton and Steven Hamilton of Southlake, Texas; Cathy and Richard Ayers and Alex Elgin Ayers of Indianola; and son and family – Bob and Debra Elgin of Indianol and Wade Elgin of Oceanside, California and Samantha Elgin of Indianola.  He is also survived by his sister, Mary Jane Brewbaker and brother, Philip Elgin of Indianola.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife, parents and brother George Lewis Elgin.  Memorials may be made to the Iowa FFA Foundation.
