Services for Bill James Ihnen, 90, of Indianola, who passed away Saturday, January 18, 2025 will be held 10:30 a.m., Thursday, January 23, 2025 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola with burial following in the Mt. Zion Cemetery, Oakley, IA.

Bill served in the United States Army from 1956 to 1958 serving in Germany as a tank gunner.  He retired from Hy-Vee after 35 years of employment in 1997.  He and his wife Shirley were happily married for 61 years when she passed away in 2014.  Bill was a member of First Baptist Church, Indianola Odd Fellows Lodge #70 serving as State Chaplin and was also a member of the Rebekah Lodge #111. He was also a member of the Indianola Garden Club.

He is survived by his children, Kim (Steven) Keenan and Scott Ihnen; two grandchildren, Michael (Brigitte) Ihnen and Christina Whalen; two great-grandchildren, Jackson Whalen and Alexander Ihnen; sister Janice Welch; brother Dennis Ihnen and many nieces, nephews and friends.  He was preceded in death by his wife Shirley; parents Henry and Arlene Ihnen; brother Merl Ihnen; sisters, Sharon Ihnen and Sandy Ihnen.

Visitation will be held prior to services from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.  Memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion Post #165.
