Obituary

Beverly "Bev" Jean Fry was born on October 24, 1938 to Orvel and Josephine (Fest) Fry.  She grew up in Van Wert, Iowa with her brothers Larry and Lowell.  Beverly came to know Christ at an early age attending the local Assembly of God church where the family provided the music. Beverly played the accordion and her brothers played brass instruments.  Beverly helped take care of her brothers and elderly grandparents while her father was away from home working on a road construction crew.  This shaped her into the nurturing mother that we all came to know.

In 1957, Orvel was tragically killed on a job site while working in road construction.  Beverly helped her mother hold the family together through grief and hard times.

On May 31, 1958, Beverly was united with Harold Ernest Roe, and had three children, Marlene, Joanie, and David.  They settled down in a small town south of Des Moines called Martensdale, Iowa.  Beverly stayed at home to raise their family, while Harold worked various factory jobs and built houses.  She took on babysitting jobs, and helped her husband in home building.  Beverly was known for her home cooked meals and hospitality.

Beverly's children went on to marry and have families of their own, and she jumped in to help care for her grandchildren, and later her parents and husband's parents.  Harold and Beverly also took several young people into their home to help them get started in life.  They also hosted several foreign exchange students.  Beverly cared for her aging husband at home until her health declined.  She opted to stay with her husband in a nursing home instead of leaving him by himself.

She is survived by her husband, Harold Roe; children, Marlene (Bert) Halterman, Joanie (Brad) Chilton and David (Amy) Roe; grandchildren, Anthony (Kally) Chilton, Nate (Abby) Chilton, Michael (Alicia) Chilton, Lexie (Steve) Farrell, Mitch (Heidi) Chilton, Zachary (Kelsi) Chilton, Mac (Ally) Chilton, Claire (Tate) Fina, Brody Roe and Chloe Roe; great-grandchildren, Liana, Lennox, Grace, Isley, Jeremiah, Hadley, Avy, Graham, Haysley, Josie, Ryley, Violet, Ocie, Edee, Ridge, Ellie; and brother, Lowell (Sue) Fry.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Orvel Fry and Josephine (John) Putney; brother, Larry Fry; and twin still born siblings, Elizabeth and Olive Fry.

Beverly passed away Monday, April 28, 2025 in Ottumwa, Iowa at the age of 86.  Services will be held 10 a.m., Saturday, May 3, 2025 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola, with the visitation to be held prior to services from 9 to 10 a.m.  Burial will follow services in the Norwood Cemetery, Lucas, Iowa.  Memorials in memory of Beverly may be given to Martensdale St. Marys Athletic Booster Club.
