Betty Jean Helt, 86, died Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at Green Hills Nursing Home in Ames, IA. Visitaiton will be Monday, February 8 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola starting at 9:30 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. A private burial will be in the Humeston Cemetery, Humeston, IA.

Betty was born in Corydon, IA to James and Halah (McVey) Crawford March 31, 1929. She married Russell Addison Helt on December 24, 1946.

Mrs. Helt, a longtime resident of Indianola, was a homemaker and loving mother. Her passions were gardening and baking. She loved to welcome friends and neighbors to daily coffee time at her home. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Indianola.

Survivors include a daughter, Pamela (Tom) Wells of Ames; two sons, James (Ann) Helt of Downers Grove, IL and Charles (Lisa) Helt of Austin, TX; sister, Don Nell Joy of Humeston, IA; two brothers, James Crawford of Des Moines, IA and Kenneth Crawford of Garden Grove, IA; five grandchildren, Kristen (Patrick) Osterhaus, Brent Helt, Shanna (Levi) Figueira, Halah Helt and Mitch Helt; and two great-grandchildren, Gerald and Brooke Osterhaus. She was preceded in death by her husband Russell, sister Virginia Auxier and brother Robert Crawford.
