Betty Jane Hegwood was born to Charles and Martha Miller on March 30, 1926 in Des Moines, Iowa. As a child, she lived in Grand Rapids, Minnesota and Mason City, Iowa. She married Stanley Myhre and they raised their two sons in Mason City and in Northwood. After Stanley’s death from kidney disease, she was married to Gilman Mondahl. Gil died from lung cancer and she then married Jim Hegwood and was married to him until he passed away from heart disease.

After Jim’s death, Betty moved to Maple Court Apartments in Northwood. In November 2020, she moved to Indianola to be closer to her son and family. Betty lived first in an independent apartment and then in Windsor Manor (assisted living) until her death on September 20, 2026. She had celebrated her 100th birthday at a party with family and friends in March of 2026.

Throughout the years Betty worked at Harv and Dick’s Super Fare in Northwood and Ristau in Mason City. She loved playing cards, puzzles, traveling, camping, and trips to casinos. Some of her fondest memories were camping with Jim in their fifth wheel.

Betty is survived by her sons, Chuck (Linda) Myhre of Indianola and Marty (Lynnette) Myhre of Vista, California. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Kim Myhre of Des Moines and Megan (Brian) Burke of Indianola and their children, Gabriel, Amelia, and Ashton. Her brother, Don Miller of Omaha; brother-in-law, Chuck Fingalsen of Ruthven; as-well-as many nieces and nephews also survive her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, brothers Russell Miller and Charles Miller, her sister Pat Fingalsen, and a sister Virginia, who died in infancy.

Betty’s family so appreciates the wonderful care she was given at Windsor Manor. A special thanks to all the staff who went above and beyond in caring for her. Services will be held at a later date.
