Obituary

Memorial services for Betty Jean Cornish, 75, who died Monday, May 16, 2005 at Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg, FL, will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 2, 2005 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola.  Burial of cremains will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Indianola.  A Celebration of Life service was held on June 4 at the Isla Del Sol Yacht and Country Club in St. Petersburg, FL.

Betty was born July 1, 1929 in Sac City, Iowa to Herman and Thelma Fuller.  She graduated from Sac City High School.  On August 24, 1947, she was united in marriage to Lawrence Robert Cornish.  She and her husband lived in Indianola and Iowa City, Iowa for most of their lives.  Following the death of her husband, in 1996, Betty lived briefly in Des Moines before moving to St. Petersburg.

Betty was a long time patron of the arts and environmental causes.  She co-founded the Carousel Community Theatre in Indianola and actively supported The Florida Orchestra, Tampa Bay Fine arts, WUSF and WEDU in the Tampa Bay area as well as The Humane Society, The Sierra Club and the Natural Resources Defense Council.  She was a member of PEO Chapter NG, the American Contract Bridge League, Pasadena Card Club, and the St. Petersburg Bridge Club.  She was a member of the Isla Del Sol Yacht and Country Club and attended Pass-a-Grille Community Church.
