Bernice Pickup of Indianola passed away at home Monday, October 4, 2021 on her 93 ^rd birthday.  Bernice was born October 4, 1928 in Warren County, Iowa to Harold and Ruth Willsey.  She lived most of her life there, with the exception of a few years in California.  She was stricken with Polio at the age of 16 months.  At the age of seven she was treated at Shriners Hospital until she was 12 years old.  Bernice attended rural school with her siblings until they moved to Indianola.  She graduated from Indianola High School in 1946 and from Capital City Commercial College in Des Moines and married Olin Pickup in 1952.

She worked for T.C. Henderson & Co, in Des Moines and several different offices in the Court House in Indianola.  Bernice also worked for Dr. P.B. West, Hickman Abstract Co. and Heavy Haulers as a bookkeeper.  Bernice spent her retirement years working in the library at the First United Methodist Church in Indianola of which she was a member.  She was also a member of PEO, Chapter JV.

Bernice was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, Ruby Nichols and Thelma Anderson; brothers, Merrill and Max and her husband Olin.  She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Pickup.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, October 8, 2021 at the Indianola First United Methodist Church.  Visitation will be held prior to services from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday.  Burial will follow in the Indianola I.O.O.F. Cemetery.  Memorials in Bernice's name may be given to the Library at the First United Methodist Church or the Shriners Hospitals for Children.
