A Mass of Christian Burial for Bernard Blink Bence, age 91, a 55 year resident of Indianola, Iowa, who passed away on March 2, 2011 at his daughter's home in Colorado Springs, CO, will be held 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 7, 2011 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic church in Indianola with Rev. Ray McHenry as celebrant. Burial will be in the Indianola I.O.O.F. Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Mr. Bence was born on October 10, 1919 at Bondurant, Iowa, son of the late, Frank and Grace Blink Bence. He had been in farming most of his life and was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. He loved working on old tractors and gasoline engines and enjoyed ballroom dancing. Bernard was also preceded in death by his wife, Helen Hope Jackson Bence; son, Lyle Thomas Bence; and sister, Marlene Kaczinski. He is survived by daughters, Judy (Bill) Schabinger and Lynn Blankman both of Monument, CO; brother, Lowell Bence of Truro, IA; and nine grandchildren. Visitation will be held 1 to 4 p.m., Sunday, March 6 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola where a Vigil service will be held at 3:30 p.m. The family requests that memorial donations be made to the local Humane Society.
