Benjamin Robert "Bob" West, passed away Sunday, September 11, 2022, in Indianola, IA.  Bob was born on May 15, 1926 in Des Moines, IA to Charles Gilbert and Beulah May (Fleenor) West.  He graduated from Des Moines East High School the class of 1944.  Following his graduation, he entered the United States Navy.  Following his discharge, he returned to Youngstown (Pleasant Hill), IA and on March 25, 1950 he was united in marriage to Dorothy Inez Lovett.

Bob worked for Iowa Pack until it closed then became a full-time farrier, shoeing horses and training mostly around the Des Moines area but he also traveled the state of Iowa.  He enjoyed card playing especially the game of pitch.  Being outside cutting wood, camping and traveling to Colorado and South Dakota to buy and sell horses.  He was also very active in rodeo and roping.

He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy West, parents, Charles and Beulah West, sisters, Lou Johnson and Ruth Grant, brothers, Bert West, Charles West and James West, and son-in-law Larry Powell.  He is survived by his children, Kenneth (Donna) West, Randi (Rod Slings) Powell, Rob (Pam) West; grandchildren, Keri (Mickey) Gillam, Matthew West, Julie (Darrell) Pearson, Joel (Anna) West, K.C. (Kim) Powell, Jake (Wendy) West; and several great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, October 16, 2022, at the American Legion Post #165 in Indianola.
