Services for Barbara Seevers, 96, of Indianola, who passed away Sunday, May 7, 2023 at home will be held 1 p.m., Thursday, May 11, 2023 at Overton Funeral Home with burial following in the Indianola I.O.O.F. Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The visitation will be held one hour prior to services from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Barbara was born at home in Custer County Nebraska. She grew up on the farm with two older sisters and two younger brothers. One of her chores was to round up the cows each evening.
She and her sisters performed on the local radio station singing while playing piano and violin. She met her future husband Carol while attending Merna High School. After graduating from high school at the age of 16, she attended the University of Nebraska and Carol joined the navy. Following the war in 1947 Barbara and Carol were married. After graduating from college in 1950 they both pursued a career in education and started their family. Barbara's earliest teaching experience started in a rural one teacher school house. Barbara performed librarian duties at UNL, Waverly and Indianola Schools.
Barbara had many friends in several Nebraska towns (Raymond, Hickman, Scotia, and Waverly) adding additional friends over the last 50 years in Indianola, Ia. Barbara enjoyed playing bridge, reading books, and participating in numerous local clubs.
Barbara and Carol loved to travel. Destinations included Alaska, Canada, and Europe. She also enjoyed a Panama Canal cruise with friends from Indianola. To further her adventures, she traveled with David and Dennis to Hawaii, Alaska, Australia, Aruba, St Thomas and New Zealand.
Barbara is survived by her children, Elizabeth (Cary) Farrington, David Seevers and Dennis Seevers; grandchildren, Anthony (Amy) Farrington, Joshua (Traci) Farrington, Abraham (Lindsay) Farrington and Abigail (John) Manley; 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; brothers, John (Corki) Dietz and Walter (Roberta) Dietz. She was preceded in death by her husband Carol Seevers; parents Cap and Marguerite Dietz; sisters, Helen Embree and Dorothy Stone.
Memorials may be given to the Indianola Library.
