A former resident of Osceola, IA and Fair Oaks, CA, Barbara J. Huffman, nee Snider, died suddenly at her Washington, MO home on Tuesday, February 7, 2006. Mrs. Huffman was 58 years old. Memorial services will be held 10:30 a.m., Monday, February 13, at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola. Visitation, with family present, will be held 3 – 5:00 p.m., Sunday, February 12 at the funeral home. Interment of cremains will be at a later date in the Mount Vernon Memorial Park Cemetery in Fair Oaks, California.

Born in Osceola, Iowa on April 29, 1947 to Evert and Ethel Smith Snider, she was a 1965 graduate of Clarke Community High School. She continued her education at Creston Community College and ultimately earned her degree in Accounting from the American Institute of Business.

Barbara and her high school sweetheart, Samuel E. Huffman, were married in January 1968. Samuel E. "Ed" Huffman, Jr., made their family complete in 1969. The Huffman's had lived in the Washington, DC and DesMoines, Iowa area prior to settling in Fair Oaks. They started a business in the wholesale importing and distribution of sunglasses. While Mr. Huffman promoted sales, Mrs. Huffman handled the company's books. The business was just starting to flourish when Mr. Huffman was diagnosed with cancer. His wife and son cared for him at home until his death in 1987 at the age of 40.

Mrs. Huffman relocated to Pacific, Missouri, in 1992. She enjoyed membership with the Pacific and Washington, MO United Methodist Churches and maintained part-time employment with the Wal-Mart Store in neighboring Eureka. She moved to her Washington, Missouri home in 2002.

She is survived by her son Samuel E. "Ed" (Nan) Huffman and grandchildren Lauren, Emily and Benjamin Huffman, all of Roseville, CA, her sisters Eileen L. (Wes) Sir of Eureka, MO, and Helen K. (Lloyd) DeMoss of Carroll, IA, and her nieces and nephews Bradach Sir, Megan Sir, Todd DeMoss and Kirby DeMoss.
