Audrey Lorena Gilliland Smith Wilder was born to the union of Otto Gilliland and Sylvia Frampton on March 3, 1925 in Shelton, Nebraska. Audrey passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 10, 2016 after battling many illnesses for many years. She was the oldest of six children and graduated from Indianola High School in 1943. She married Robert Lyle Smith of Medora, Iowa in 1946. After his death in 1984 Audrey married Bob G. Wilder in 1986.

Before becoming a mother, Audrey taught school in Iowa for two years in a one room school house and worked at the Equitable Building, Bankers Life in Des Moines. During her life time in Indianola she was a mother to three children while being employed with Kings Cleaners and Harrison Variety Store, was the owner of the Wood Motel, was very active in her church and a member of the Order of Eastern Star.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Sylvia Gilliland; spouses, Robert L. Smith and Bob G. Wilder; son, Michael B. Smith; daughter-in-law, Sheila A. Vrban Smith and her nephews, Michael Gilliland, Dale Martin and Ben Olsem.

She is survived by her brothers, Marion (Anna) Gilliland of West Des Moines, Edward (Mary) Gilliland of Missouri; sisters, Anna Marie (Ramon) Martin and Dolores (Gerald) Oglesbee of Arizona and Darlene (Larry) McKinney of Missouri; children, Gloria Smith Vanderpool of Indianola and Kimberly (Kristian) Smith Pedersen of Denmark; grandchildren, Curtis "CW" (Donna) Smith of Des Moines, Kristin (Spencer) Smith Way of California, Douglas (Sarah) Vanderpool of New York, Michelle (Terry) Brands of Iowa City and John Pedersen of Denmark; great-grandchildren, Nelson and Sydney Brands, Rose Wallace-Smith, Kennedy and Brooklyn Way, Jade, Jackson, Jayson and Madeline Vanderpool; and many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Services for Audrey will be held 11:30 a.m., Thursday, January 14, 2016 at the Indianola First Baptist Church with cremation following services. Burial will be held at a later date in the Indianola I.O.O.F. Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, January 13 at Overton Funeral Home where family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to Mercy Hospice.
