Ardell Arthur Sitz, 85, formerly of Indianola, who recently had moved to Phoenix to be with his daughters, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 8, 2011 in Phoenix, AZ. Ardell was born the son of Arthur Julius Sitz and Lydia Bertha Reiter March 23, 1926 and was raised on a farm in Minnesota. He attended all his school years there graduating in 1943. Ardell served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1946. He moved to Iowa soon after high school where he met the love of his life, Gretchen Lujean Smith, and they were married on March 19, 1949 (62 years) and were blessed with two daughters, Terry Willson and Sherry Shira. Ardell was a lifelong member of the American Paint Horse Association and very active and successful in raising and showing Paint horses. He was a director of the APHA for many years. He drove semi truck for Super Valu warehouse all over the state of Iowa retiring after 42 years. Ardell is survived by his lovely wife, Gretchen; his daughters, Terry and Sherry; grandchildren, Lacey (Shira) Johnson, Robert Shira, Chad Willson and Cody Willson; and great-grandchildren, Emma and Hannah Johnson, Madisyn and Cooper Willson and Tyler and Kendal Willson, with another grandson expected in July!
