ALTA MARIE OVERTON Indianola Alta Marie Overton died at The Village in Indianola on March 31, 2011 with family at her side. Alta, daughter of Abel Joshua and Ellen Marie Moffitt, was born February 10, 1923, near Ackworth, Iowa and married Russell R. Overton on August 21, 1941. She lived most of her adult life in Indianola. At various times in her life, she worked at People's Trust and Savings Bank, Hickman Abstract Company, Warren County Homemakers, Credit Bureau, H & R Block and Nyswonger Insurance Agency. Alta was a member of Indianola First United Methodist Church and a proud birthright member of the Society of Friends. She frequently attended services at Friends Church in Ackworth. She attended Craven Rural School and graduated from Indianola High School. She also took accounting courses at Simpson College and completed courses for her real estate license and income tax preparation. She was an avid bridge player and belonged to a couples' bridge club. Her greatest love was being with family and enjoying activities with them. Alta is survived by her daughter, Rosalyn (Douglas) Gugler; grandchildren, Deanna (Eric McLuen) Overton, Phillip Gugler, Benjamin Gugler, Karen Gugler, Trevor (Hillary) Clatt, Alicia Overton, and McKenzie Overton; ; two sisters, Esther Houston and Mary (Russ) Long; three great-grandchildren; and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Russ; son and daughter-in-law, R. Richard and R. Elaine Overton; her son, Alan J. Overton; sister and brother-in-law, Caroline and Dudley Duncan; brother and sister-in-law, Clarence and Marie Moffitt; infant brother, Curtis Edward Moffitt; and her parents. Services will be held 10 a.m., Monday, April 4, 2011 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola with burial in the I.O.O.F. Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be held 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday, April 3 at Overton Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be given to the Ackworth Friends Church or the National Alliance for Mental Illness.
