Obituary

Memorial services for Alice Frieda Andrews, 86, who passed away Monday, April 13, 2009 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, will be held 9:30 a.m., Saturday, April 18 at the Trinity United Presbyterian Church in Indianola.

Alice was born the eldest of twins on October 27, 1922 in Ida Grove, IA to John and Caroline Gerdes. She lived most of her childhood in Lake View, IA where she graduated from high school in 1940. She married Robert A Andrews in 1949 and their son, Richard was born in 1952 and daughter, Kimberly in 1959. Alice was a stay at home mom and Robert worked for the railroad.

She had moved to Des Moines and had lived in the same home for over 40 years before moving to Indianola where she lived for the past ten years. Following her husband's death in 1971, she worked for the Des Moines Schools Food Service at Wright Elementary for over 25 years. She was a member of the Park Avenue Presbyterian Church in Des Moines for over 25 years.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and brother, Arnold "Pete" Gerdes; and her twin brother, Alvin Gerdes. She is survived by her son, Dr. Richard C. Andrews (Dr. Arminda Perez) of DeSoto, TX; daughter, Kimberly Jo Borkowski (David) of Indianola; grandchildren, Robert J. Andrews, Daniel A. Andrews and Alita R. Andrews all of DeSoto, TX, Wyatt A. Borkowski and Alyssa M. Borkowski both of Indianola; brother, Kenneth W. Gerdes (Dolores) of LeMars; and sister, Joanne C. Boger (William) of Storm Lake.

Mrs. Andrews has been cremated. Visitation with family present will be held 6 – 8 p.m., Friday, April 17 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola. Memorial contributions may be made to Indianola Trinity United Presbyterian Church.
