Obituary

Services for Alexander Tiwari Haines, 85, who passed away, Saturday, June 7, 2014 at home, will be held 2 p.m. Monday, June 9 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola. Visitation will be held from noon to 2 p.m. prior to services on Monday. Burial will follow in the Indianola I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Alexander was born in Allajab, India on October 12, 1928 and lived in boarding school and attended the Union Mission School. He was an only child and his parents were both deceased before he was 7 years old. He was born into a Hindu family and became a Christian as a young boy. He attended college in India and came to America with the choir to tour. He then stayed in America and went to Pittsburgh University in 1956. He then continued his education at Lexington Theological Seminary for his Masters of Divinity and PhD. In 1973 Alexander became an American citizen and was ministering at a church in Pennsylvania at that time. On June 8, 1976 Alexander married Pansy Edwards in Kanpur, India. Pansy was an R.N. in India. Alexander and Pansy returned to America and Alexander ministerd at a church in West Virginia. In 1976 they moved to Prairie City, IA where he was a minister at Prairie City Christian Church for 5 ½ years. He also ministered at Union Mills Christian Church and Kellogg Christian Church in Iowa. After Alexander's heart attack he continued to fill in as pulpit supply part-time. Alexander also served as Chaplain and Counselor at the Salvation Army. He also taught Philosophy at DMACC. Before completely retiring Alexander and Pansy managed Van El Apartments in Indianola for 13 years. Alexander loved helping people and ministering to each person he came in contact with. His greatest concern was that they know the Lord. He loved music and loved to sing and play the piano. He was a member of the Warren Lodge #53 A.F & A.M. in Indianola. He is survived by his wife, Pansy of 38 years and daughter Mary (Pablo) Tiwari Di Santi of Sherman Oak, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents. Memorials may be given to the family in his name.
