Life Legacy

ELAINE ELIZABETH HARTING
Indianola

Elaine was taken to her heavenly home at the age of 86 on Sunday, February 26, 2012 from her earthly home in Indianola. She lived and lives today in Christ her Savior. “Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.” (Rev. 14:13)

Elaine was born in Chicago, IL on December 9, 1925 to George and Helen Bonesz. By God’s grace she was baptized into Christ. She attended Bethany Lutheran Elementary School and Concordia High School in River Forest, IL.

At Concordia, Elaine met Walter F. Harting, and they were married June 23, 1945. She was a faithful wife and mother as Walter went on to teach at Lutheran elementary schools in MN. and Texas, Lutheran West High School in Cleveland, OH, and Concordia Lutheran College in Ann Arbor, MI. At Walter’s death in 2000, Elaine moved to Indianola to live with her son (Robert) and his family.

Elaine had five children: Ronald (d.1950), Randall (d.2005), Janet (d.2010), Diane (Dennis) Babyak, Denver, NC; and Robert (Dawn) Harting, Indianola, IA. Elaine has seven grandchildren: Andrew (Lauren) Babyak a missionary in Senegal, Africa; Joseph (Allison) Babyak, Pittsboro, NC; Paul Harting (d.1986), 2nd Lt. Timothy (Casey) Harting, Ft. Bragg, NC; and also Michael, Abigail and Hannah Harting of Indianola. Elaine also has 3 great grandsons from Andy and Lauren: Aaron, Nathan, and Caleb.

Her great love was her Lord and Savior Jesus who died to give her and the world the forgiveness of sins and who rose on Easter to bless us with the resurrection of the body. This Christian faith was central in her life as she loved worshiping with fellow Christians and teaching this faith to her family and all she knew. She especially was thankful to the Lord for her church family at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ann Arbor, MI and for the past 11 years at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Indianola. “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9.

The funeral service for Elaine E. Harting will be on Tuesday, February 28 at 11 AM at Good Shepherd Evangelical Lutheran Church, 202 N. Kenwood, Indianola, Iowa. A visitation at Good Shepherd starting at 10 AM will precede the service. Rev. Martin Hoesch, pastor of Bethany Lutheran Church of Ames, IA will be officiating. The committal will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 1 in the Elmwood Cemetery, River Grove, IL, where Elaine will be buried next to her husband (Walter), parents, and son (Ronald). Memorials may be given to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
